The short version
- Student accounts are linked to a parent or guardian — we don't treat children as unsupervised users.
- We never store your mobile‑money PIN, password, or full card number — payment partners handle that.
- Parents see their child's learning progress, purchases and wallet activity — not the private content of their messages.
- We don't sell personal information, and we don't run behavioural advertising to student accounts.
- You can request a copy of, or the deletion of, your data at any time — see Your rights.
1 Scope & who this covers
This Privacy Policy applies to everyone who uses the Slatify mobile application and any related websites, APIs or services we operate (together, the "Service"), including:
- Students — young people using Slatify to join classes, learn, connect with classmates, and spend from a guardian‑funded wallet.
- Teachers & content creators — educators who run classes, publish lessons, and may sell original learning content.
- Parents & guardians — adults linked to one or more student accounts, who fund and oversee those accounts.
- Vendors — school canteen and till operators who accept Campus Fund payments through the Service.
Where this Policy applies differently depending on your role, we say so explicitly. If you are a school administering Slatify for your students, a separate agreement with your school may also apply and can add additional terms — check with your school if you're unsure which applies.
2 Information we collect
2.1 Information you give us
- Account & profile information: name, date of birth, role (student/teacher/parent/vendor), school and class affiliation, profile photo, contact details used for sign‑up and recovery.
- Guardian‑linking information: the relationship between a guardian and a student account, and the approvals exchanged to create, confirm or revoke that link.
- Content you create: posts, comments, reactions and replies on Learning Pulse; messages, voice notes and call metadata sent through chat; lessons, quizzes and other content published by teachers; ratings, reviews and content Q&A.
- Learning activity: classes joined, lessons viewed, quiz attempts and results, reading progress, and content purchased or created.
- Wallet & transaction information: Campus Fund and Slatify Coins balances, top‑up and spend history, and canteen purchase records. See Wallet & payment information for what we do not collect.
- Support & safety reports: anything you send us when you contact support, report content, or appeal a decision.
2.2 Information we collect automatically
- Device & usage data: device type, operating system, app version, crash logs, and how you interact with app features, used to keep the Service working and to improve it.
- Notification tokens: a device identifier used to deliver push notifications (for example, through Firebase Cloud Messaging) — wallet updates, class activity, and messages.
- Approximate, network‑level information such as IP address and general region, used for security (for example, detecting suspicious sign‑ins) — Slatify does not track precise device location.
2.3 Information from other sources
- School verification: information a school or teacher provides to verify a teaching scope or school affiliation.
- Payment confirmations: a success/failure/refund status and reference from our licensed mobile‑money and payment partners for each wallet transaction.
3 Children, students & guardian consent
Slatify is built to be used by school‑age students under the involvement of a parent or guardian, and we take that responsibility seriously.
- Student accounts require a linked guardian before wallet features are enabled, and guardian‑linking requests are consent‑based and logged for both sides — never created silently.
- Where local law sets a minimum age or requires verifiable parental consent for a child's account (for example, under COPPA in the United States, GDPR in the European Union/UK, or an equivalent national data protection law), we only enable the relevant features once that consent has been given through the guardian‑linking process.
- We do not knowingly allow a student account to hold or spend money that isn't traceable to a guardian‑approved top‑up.
- We do not serve behavioural or third‑party advertising to student accounts, and we do not sell a student's personal information.
- A parent or guardian can review, request correction of, or request deletion of their linked child's personal information at any time — see Your rights & choices.
- If we learn that a student account was created without an eventual guardian link where one is required, we will restrict wallet and communication features until that link is completed, or remove the account.
4 How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Operate the core Service — classes, Learning Pulse, chat and calls, the book reader, quizzes, and the wallet;
- Verify identity and role — confirming a teacher's teaching scope, a guardian's link to a student, or a vendor's canteen account;
- Process wallet top‑ups, purchases and canteen transactions, and send you the resulting confirmations and receipts;
- Keep the community safe — reviewing reports, enforcing our Community Guidelines, and detecting fraud or abuse;
- Send service notifications (class activity, wallet updates, messages) and, where you've agreed to receive them, product updates;
- Understand how the Service is used so we can fix problems and build better features; and
- Meet legal, tax, financial‑recordkeeping and regulatory obligations.
We do not use a student's activity on Slatify to build an advertising profile, and we do not sell personal information to data brokers or advertisers.
5 How we share information
We share information only where it's needed to run the Service, keep people safe, or meet a legal obligation:
- Within your school community, by role: a teacher sees the roster and activity of their own class; classmates in a class or chat see what you post or send there; a linked guardian sees the information described in What parents can and can't see.
- Vendors: a canteen vendor sees the information needed to complete and reconcile a sale — never a student's full wallet history or unrelated personal information.
- Service providers: hosting, cloud storage, push‑notification, analytics and customer‑support providers who process data on our behalf, under contracts that limit their use of it to providing that service.
- Payment & mobile‑money partners: the minimum information needed to process a top‑up or payment — see Wallet & payment information.
- Schools: where a school administers Slatify for its community, information relevant to that administration (for example, teacher verification or class rosters).
- Safety & legal reasons: to investigate a safety report, respond to a lawful request from a regulator or law‑enforcement authority, or protect the rights, property or safety of Slatify, our users, or the public — including, where reasonably necessary, sharing information with a guardian, school, or the appropriate authority in a child‑safety emergency.
- Business transfers: if Slatify is involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy's protections continuing to apply.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share student personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
6 What parents can and can't see
Guardian oversight on Slatify is deliberately scoped and transparent — both to the guardian and to the student:
| A linked guardian can see | A linked guardian cannot see |
| Learning progress (classes joined, quiz results, content purchased) | The text content of a student's private chat messages |
| Campus Fund and Slatify Coins balances and top‑up history | Voice note or call content between a student and classmates/teachers |
| Purchase history (pending, successful, failed, refunded) | Posts or comments a student has not shared publicly on Learning Pulse |
| High‑level communication activity indicators used for safety (e.g. that contact happened), where enabled | Precise device location |
| Their own history of linking, approval and funding actions (the Guardian Audit Log) | Another guardian's private account information |
We designed it this way because oversight built on secret surveillance erodes trust and safety rather than protecting it — a student who knows what is and isn't visible to their guardian is safer than one who doesn't. If your family or jurisdiction requires a different visibility arrangement, contact us using the details in Contact us.
7 Wallet & payment information
- Wallet top‑ups and canteen or content payments are processed by licensed, third‑party mobile‑money and payment partners.
- Slatify does not receive or store your mobile‑money PIN, mobile banking password, or full card number. We receive only a transaction reference and a status (successful, failed, or refunded) and the purpose of the charge (pocket money, calling credit, or content purchase).
- Transaction line descriptions are frozen at the time of sale — later changes to a canteen item or piece of content do not rewrite your past receipts.
- Financial records are retained for as long as required by applicable tax, accounting and financial‑services regulation, even after an account is closed — see Retention & deletion.
8 How we protect information
We apply layered technical and organizational safeguards — encryption in transit and at rest, role‑based access controls, and audit logging on sensitive actions like guardian linking and wallet funding. Full detail on our security program, including breach‑notification commitments, is in our Data Protection Policy.
No system is completely immune to risk. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately using the details in
Contact us.
9 Retention & deletion
We keep information only as long as it's needed for the purposes described in this Policy, then delete or anonymize it, except where we must keep it longer to meet a legal, tax or financial‑recordkeeping obligation. Typical periods are set out in the Data Protection Policy's retention schedule. When you close an account, we deactivate it immediately and permanently delete personal information after a limited recovery window, other than records we're required to retain by law (such as financial transaction records).
10 Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you (or, for a guardian, your linked child);
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Delete your personal information, subject to our legal retention obligations;
- Export your data in a portable format;
- Object to or restrict certain processing, including opting out of non‑essential communications; and
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent, such as a guardian link.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Contact us. We may need to verify your identity (or your relationship to a linked child) before acting on a request, and we'll respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
11 Device permissions
- Microphone: used only when you actively record a voice note or are on a call.
- Camera & photo library: used only when you choose to take or attach a photo, such as a profile picture or post image.
- Notifications: used to deliver class, message and wallet alerts; you can turn these off in your device settings at any time.
We do not access these permissions in the background beyond what's needed to deliver the specific feature you're using.
12 International users
Slatify may store and process information in countries other than the one you live in. Where we transfer personal information internationally, we use safeguards recognized under applicable law (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect it. Depending on your location, additional rights may apply under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR, COPPA, or your country's national data protection act — nothing in this Policy limits those rights.
13 Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy as the Service evolves. If we make a material change, we'll notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Slatify after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Policy.
